Manchester United are expected to land the signature of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain before the transfer window closes, according to AS.
The Red Devils have been negotiating with Les Parisiens for the 23-year-old in recent weeks, but they have yet to meet the £51m price tag.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes has travelled to the United Kingdom to broker a deal and AS claim that Ugarte will eventually end up at Old Trafford.
The South American star was left out of the matchday squad for Paris Saint-Germain’s opening league game against Le Havre last night.
Les Parisiens are discussing payment terms with United and there is optimism that they could ultimately provide a discount for the deal.
The French champions recently landed Joao Neves from Benfica and he is expected to become a regular starter ahead of Ugarte this term.
Instead of Ugarte warming the bench, the hierarchy could open the door for his sale to United for a reduced fee before the transfer deadline.
