Trent on his way to Madrid?

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly on the cusp of joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The right-back has been a fantastic player for the Merseyside giants. He is set to leave when his contract expires on June 30.

TalkSPORT claim that Madrid are in advanced negotiations with the Englishman. A pre-contract could be sealed soon.

Alexander-Arnold will reportedly earn around £220,000 per week, but will receive a significant signing-on fee as part of the move.

The news is a huge setback for the Reds, who seemed optimistic of keeping the 26-year-old at the beginning of the year.

There are now concerns whether Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will follow the Englishman through the exit door.

The duo are also contracted until the end of June and as things stand, the club have not managed to agree on fresh terms.

Liverpool will be hoping to avoid distractions after the international break as they aim to win their second Premier League title.
