Man United ‘want to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer for £51million’ – and ‘could include Mason Greenwood as part of a swap deal’ for Brazil international

Manchester United reportedly want to buy Juventus defender Gleison Bremer for £51million – and could hand over Mason Greenwood in a shock exchange.

United’s interest in Bremer is already well-documented but now it has emerged that they are willing to stump up a fee in Juventus’ desired ballpark.

Bremer won the Serie A Best Defender award in 2020/21 with Torino and is also on the radar of Real Madrid and Chelsea

Sending Greenwood in a swap deal would be a bold move but it could help get him off the books easily instead of finding a buyer, as United have an asking price of £34m

With the money and Greenwood together, a deal would be possible, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport

Meanwhile, Calciomercato claims that United have ‘intensified contacts’ with Bremer, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe hoping to jump to the front of the queue ahead of the summer.

Juventus could technically demand more money for him. He recently penned a new contract with a release clause but that only activates in 2025, reportedly between £51m and £60m.

Bremer made the controversial switch from Torino to cross-town rivals Juventus in 2022, and has since gone on to be a key part of Massimiliano Allegri’s resurgence at the Old Lady.

Juventus have hit a wall recently and slipped to third in Serie A, but still have an impressive defensive record of 23 goals conceded in 29 league games.

What they’re not so proficient at this season is scoring goals – and that’s why Greenwood could be tempting to them.

He is reviving his career at Getafe in Spain and has scored eight goals in 27 games.

United have reportedly decided that they do not want to loan him out again and want to sell him, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid interested. Mail Sport understands the latter are following him particularly keenly.

The forward, 22, was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022, but the charges and case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew.

There is also the possibility of him returning to Old Trafford.

New part-owner Ratcliffe last month left the door open to Greenwood returning – despite the club’s previous indication that he would not play for them again.

He said: ‘It’s a fresh decision. I can talk about the principle. I am not going to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it. The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forwards.

‘You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have.

‘What we need to do when have issues like that is understand real effects, not the hype, then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values. That’s what we need to do and that’s how we will deal with it.

‘We need to look at facts, judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are. Then we come out of that with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.’

Greenwood reportedly has ‘no great desire’ to return to United.

According to The Athletic, Greenwood has heard Ratcliffe’s claims but remains ‘reluctant to accept a return’ and feels the club ‘could have supported him better’ over his case.

The outlet go on to claim that the 22-year-old ‘has no great desire’ to play for Man United again and recognises the scrutiny he could receive if he returned.
