Mauricio Pochettino insists that Chelsea will win the Premier League — if not with him then with another manager — because their project is on track.
The club’s policy of signing young players needed time to prosper and they look to move into the top half of the table by beating Burnley on Saturday. They are in the FA Cup’s semi-finals, reached the final of the Carabao Cup last month, and Pochettino says their data suggests they should be in the Premier League’s top four.
The manager insists that proves Chelsea are on the right path and he is confident that players such as Mykhailo Mudryk will only get better with time.
‘When we came here we knew the challenge would be to help — not just one or two (young players) — by maybe 10,’ said Pochettino. ‘If we were not calm and didn’t analyse the project in the way we do, maybe today you would be talking to different coaches here.
‘We understood very well what it means to change the direction of the club. Now it is completely different. We want the best for the club, for the owners, for the players and for our fans.

‘Of course, we want to win the Premier League. Yes, one day we will. But if not, for sure another coaching staff will win it because this process needs to happen.
‘And it needs to happen in the best way — in the way that it is happening. Because if not, it will be impossible for the young players to grow.’
Pochettino says Chelsea’s owners are as desperate to start winning as the fans, who have taken to booing their own players and have engaged in civil war over the club’s direction.
Only Saturday’s opponents Burnley have averaged a younger line-up this season than Chelsea as Pochettino added: ‘All the data today puts us in the table in the top four. But for different reasons, we are not there.

‘In which areas do we need to improve? In small details that you can get with experience and time and playing together.
‘It is easy to find data and numbers when you want to kill someone. But also, when the data is good and reflects the team is doing well, we must trust in the process.’
