Lionel Messi put on a masterclass as over 65,000 fans packed out New England‘s Gillette Stadium to watch the soccer legend in action on Saturday night.

Messi, considered the greatest soccer player in history by many, travelled to Foxborough with Inter Miami this weekend as Tata Martino’s men locked horns with the Revolution in their latest MLS outing.

And with Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain in town, a record number of supporters filled Gillette Stadium in the hope of watching a genius at work.

According to the Revolution, 65,612 fans were in the house for their game against Miami on Saturday – the largest home crowd in the team’s history.

After just 40 seconds they were treated to a surprise early opener when Tomas Chancalay capitalized on a defensive mishap from Miami to fire New England in front.

However, Messi then exerted his dominance on proceedings when he drew the visitors level with a deadly finish from close range 31 minutes later.

The 36-year-old first latched onto a pass from Robbie Taylor inside the box, before taking a touch out of his feet and tucking the ball home to make it 1-1.

Just over 20 minutes into the second half, the 65,000-heavy New England crowd were left purring over Messi once more when he combined with fellow Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets to move Miami in front.

Busquets picked out his famous teammate with an inch-perfect pass in the 67th minute, allowing him to blast the ball past Henrich Ravas and into the back of the net.

After flocking to Gillette Stadium for a piece of history, the home support were treated to a two-goal Messi masterclass on the night.

Miami went on to cruise to a comfortable 4-1 victory in the end thanks to later goals from Benjamin Cremaschi and substitute Luis Suarez.

Messi has now scored nine goals in seven MLS appearances for Inter this season, helping his team storm into a three-point lead at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Next up for the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is the visit of New York Red Bulls to Chase Stadium next Saturday.
