After a summer of international tournaments, club football is officially back this week.

The first round of Carabao Cup fixtures got underway this Tuesday and Wednesday, featuring a total of 32 fixtures across the two days.

No Premier League sides was involved in any of these match-ups however.

Much to the dismay of many fans who were itching to see their refined and sharpened teams in competitive action once again after a long summer away.

They won’t have to wait long to see them in cup football thought as a host of Premier League sides will enter the competition in round two, with the draw taking place tonight.

The 13 teams in England’s top-flight not competing in Europe this season will be placed into the second-round regional draw this evening.

Championship sides Burnley and Luton who finished 18th and 19th in the Premier League last season will also enter the competition in the second round. 

The other seven remaining top-tier sides won’t come into the competition until the third stage of the competition.

When is the Carabao Cup second-round draw?

The draw for second-round of the Carabao Cup will take place on Wednesday, August 14.

The draw will get underway around 10:15pm BST, just after the final first-round fixture between Leeds United and Middlesbrough comes to an end. 

The draw for the second-round fixtures will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event and here at Mail Sport we will also be providing a live blog of the event.

When will the Carabao Cup second-round games be played?

The ties for the second-round of the tournament will take place on the week commencing August 26. 

Most fixtures are expected to be played on Tuesday, August 27, and Wednesday, August 28.

Why are Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City not in the draw?

 Any team with European commitments for the upcoming season ahead have been awarded a second-round bye and won’t enter the competition until stage three.

This is to avoid player burnout meaning Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa will all not feature in tonight’s draw.
