Fans were left shocked that Newcastle star Joelinton wasn’t sent off for bringing down Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto.

The incident occurred in the closing stages of the game at the Vitality Stadium, with Joelinton only receiving a yellow card after grabbing Neto’s neck.

Neto was left livid following the incident, with Bournemouth’s frustration compounded by the fact that Dango Ouattara had a goal controversially ruled out during an eventful end to the game.

The game ended 1-1, with Marcus Tavernier having given Bournemouth the lead before Anthony Gordon levelled for Newcastle in the second half.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted that Joelinton’s actions were ‘reckless’ and added that he would talk to the player about it.

Howe told Sky Sports: ‘It’s probably a little bit reckless, you can see what he was trying to do but you can’t go near the head area. That’s something we will talk to him about.’
