It was previously announced by David Ornstein that Jackson had agreed fresh terms with the Blues, but Chelsea have now moved to confirm the news, with the striker having put pen to paper on a new nine-year deal.

“I am feeling very good and am very happy to sign a new contract and stay at the club,” the 23-year-old said on the club’s official website.

“It feels great the club has confidence in me. I am working very hard. I am very happy to extend my contract and stay here for many years.”

A Premier League great in the making?

The Senegal striker arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer in a deal worth €37 million but has struggled to gain unanimous favour among Blues supporters since then.

During his first campaign, the striker scored 17 goals in 44 appearances for his new club.

Nevertheless, he succeeded in charming former manager Mauricio Pochettino, who believes the former Villarreal man has the capacity to become a Premier League great.

“He is going to be a fantastic player, but he needs time,” Pochettino said.

Previously, the Argentine had claimed: “We don’t need to ask him to run, to press, to help the team when we don’t have the ball because he has these qualities, and then he’s amazing with his feet. He has the capacity to run with the ball, to link with the team and to score goals. He’s going to score, it’s only a matter of time.

“No doubt, he can become one of the greatest strikers in the Premier League of all time.”

All this did not stop Chelsea chasing down alternative No.9 options in the summer, with a madcap chase for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen ultimately falling short on Deadline Day.

Despite their desire for more firepower, Chelsea clearly still retain confidence in Jackson, who will be with the club for a decade should he see out his latest deal.
