TV cameras captured Peter Schmeichel’s reaction as son Kasper conceded seven times as Celtic were thrashed by Borussia Dortmund.
The Bundesliga side wasted little time getting to work in the Champions League clash, with former Liverpool star Emre Can beginning the rout from the penalty spot after Schmeichel brought down Jamie Gittens.
Celtic responded immediately to going behind, and Daizen Maeda equalised from close range just moments later though.
The reprieve ultimately proved to be a brief one however, and Karim Adeyemi restored Dortmund’s lead following a frantic period of three goals in the space of four minutes.
From there the evening would only go from bad to worse for Brendan Rodgers‘ side with Adeyemi completing a first-half hat-trick and Dortmund adding another from the penalty spot through Serhou Guirassy before the interval.

Dortmund continued pressing forward after the restart and Guirassy added another after the hour mark with Felix Nmecha completing the rout in the closing stages.
After Nmecha made it seven for the hosts Peter Schmeichel could be seen looking exasperated as he watched on from the gantry.
While the scoreline was a nightmare for the Scottish champions, Schmeichel made several saves throughout the game to prevent his side suffering an even heavier defeat.
Speaking following the game the elder Schmeichel detailed his feelings for the Celtic goalkeeper during the game.
‘It really is difficult.’ Peter said on CBS Sports.
‘Because you always want the best for your children. It doesn’t matter what situation they find themselves in, and of course today was just one of those days that you can never ever explain.
‘There was so many shots at goal, seven of them went in. There could have been a little bit more. As Callum McGregor said to me earlier it was just one of those days they just couldn’t get close enough to close that down.
Nuri Sahin’s side were relentless as they inflicted a humiliating defeat on the Scottish Champions
‘I spoke to Kasper as he came out of the game here and I said, “This was a bad bad day at the office and take it as nothing more. Move on, be one of the leaders in the dressing room and help everyone recover from this.”‘
The 37-year-old arrived at Celtic Park on a one-year deal this summer having enjoyed stints at Nice and Anderlecht after departing Leicester following a glittering 11-year spell in 2022.
