“No rush, we’re not under pressure as he has three more years on his current deal. We are calm and we’re negotiating.”

Over the summer, Napoli boss Antonio Conte categorically ruled out the sale of Kvaratskhelia, amid a wide berth of reports.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham head coach spoke about the future of the 23-year-old upon his unveiling.

Both his father and his agent had been very vocal about Kvaratskhelia being open to a move away from the club. It was so widespread over the summer, even prompting an official club statement stating categorically that he was not for sale.

According to Fabrizio Romano at the time, Chelsea were among the suitors for Kvaratskhelia as well as Paris Saint-Germain.

Conte’s ‘categorical’ response

Speaking at his press conference, Conte said: “Kvara remains, I was categorical about this. Did I give you any news? No, the president gave it.”

Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis commented that PSG tried to “tap up” the Georgian. He said: “On Kvara, the matter is simple. We have a contract with him, I will sit with my management, with him and his agent and we will make him a proposal for a contractual change [extension]. I don’t see any problems.”

“A problem could be for those who, contra legem, make contracts and offers without being authorised by the club. So one, if he wanted, could also call them to order. And if the president of the ECA [PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi] does it, he should preside rather than command.”

“But now at 75 years old, I’m not surprised at who is correct and who isn’t, I always try to be correct by nature.”
