Erling Haaland might by Manchester City’s main man, but long-term uncertainty continues to linger over the prolific No.9.

The Norway international has refused to conclusively commit his long-term future for City, with the indications that his plans are tied to those of Pep Guardiola, who has been equally evasive on what he may do beyond the end of 2024/25, when his contract at the Etihad Stadium expires.

Man City’s legal case against the Premier League, in which they face 115 FFP breaches, may be a determining factor, with the manager indicating that he would step down if the club was proven to be in the wrong.

Haaland has, therefore, been associated with a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid, but he is planning for a different eventuality should this prove impossible.

According to a report in Spain (via Football365), PSG are planning the ‘bomb signing’ of the 24-year-old. The Ligue 1 leaders are described as a “powerful” alternative to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Haaland to light up Paris?

Logically, it would be a surprise move that could make sense if Haaland does indeed decide to leave Man City for any reason.

PSG are crying out for a centre-forward at present, with their chronical lack of efficiency pushing them to the brink of a Champions League exit. He also has the type of media profile that the club is missing.

On top of this, the Qatari-owned club are well placed to pay him handsomely.

Moving to Spain, meanwhile, may not be as obvious as he might like. Real Madrid are already overstocked in attack, with Kylian Mbappe struggling to settle following his move from PSG, while Barcelona continue to face financial issues, despite announcing a massive deal with Nike last week.

A deal with another Premier League side seems unlikely. Haaland appears to have a genuine affection for City, and this, combined with his apparently desire to win every possible trophy in the game, is likely to take him abroad if and when he leaves the Etihad.

Under contract until 2027, it would take a mammoth fee to lure the striker away from Man City, where he has become the most valuable player in the world, with an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €155.8m.
