Enzo Maresca has insisted that injuries to Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez will not impact Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s future at Chelsea.

The 26-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City for €35.4 million in July, but he has played a peripheral role since his arrival in west London amid significant competition for places.

Dewsbury-Hall has only racked up 16 appearances for the Blues this campaign and his only Premier League start for the club came during the 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

Lavia and Fernandez were both absent from Chelsea’s matchday squad for the clash against Vitor Pereira’s side, after suffering injuries versus Bournemouth, and Maresca was forced to start Dewsbury-Hall due to a lack of other sufficient options.

The Englishman has been heavily linked with a January exit, amid interest from Everton and West Ham United, but Maresca has revealed that he wants to keep Dewsbury-Hall at the club, irrespective of Lavia and Fernandez’s injuries.

What has Enzo Maresca said?

Following the win against Wolves, Maresca was asked about Dewsbury-Hall’s future at Chelsea and whether his lack of current midfield options will impact what happens to the ex-Leicester star this month.

“No,” Maresca replied. “We are not going to take a decision on Kiernan because of Romeo and Enzo.

“They are injured, absolutely, [but] I said already, a few days ago or weeks ago, that the intention is to keep Kiernan. Then because we are in January anything can happen.”

Chelsea opted to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace following injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, but Maresca has surprisingly insisted that Lavia and Fernandez will play no role in the decision Chelsea take regarding Dewsbury-Hall’s future.

The former Leicester midfielder still has four-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at Chelsea, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) now stands at less than €27m.
