Arsenal set to miss out on Watkins

Arsenal have been handed a massive blow in the pursuit of striker Ollie Watkins following Aston Villa’s decision to sell Jhon Duran this winter.

The Gunners made a formal £60 million bid for Watkins earlier today, but their transfer proposal was immediately snubbed by the Midlands outfit.

With a huge Champions League game against Celtic tonight, Villa were not pleased with the approach from the Gunners. Arsenal have now received another setback.

Villa have agreed to sell Duran to Al-Nassr for around £64.5m up front and he will undergo his medical on London tomorrow before signing his contract.

With Duran’s exit, Unai Emery‘s side are unlikely to entertain the prospect of Watkins leaving the club before the transfer window closes next week.

Arsenal are desperately on the hunt for a new marksman and they may have to look at alternative options in the transfer market over the next few days.

Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel is one of the top names on the club’s radar. Arsenal could step up their interest with Watkins unlikely to join.
