Following Borussia Dortmund’s 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, sporting managing director Lars Ricken confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Niko Kovac to become the club’s new head coach.

“We have reached an agreement in principle. He will take over the team on Sunday,” Ricken said.

This means that caretaker coach Mike Tullberg will get one last game in charge when Dortmund take on Heidenheim on Saturday.

“It’s been the right decision with him so far. I hope we can confirm that with a win against Heidenheim. That would be a great favor to all of us, especially Mike, who has done a great job so far,” said Ricken.

Dortmund and Kovac have reportedly agreed a contract until 2026.
