Conceiçao and Mourinho pay tribute to Pinto da Costa:’ That’s how we said goodbye’

Sergio Conceiçao and José Mourinho paid tribute to legendary Porto President Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa: ‘We will forever keep what you did for me and my family close to our hearts,’ said the Milan coach.

Pinto da Costa passed away last week and his funeral were held at the Estadio do Dragao on Monday.

“If a picture is worth a thousand words, it would take a thousand pictures to describe everything you mean to me, President,” Milan coach Conceiçao wrote on Instagram.

“What you did for our Porto is well known, but we will forever keep what you did for me and my family close to our hearts.

“The last times were not easy, but decades of collaboration, connection, and friendship stand far above that. A bond that needed no words, gestures, or expressions. An almost telepathic understanding. Rest in peace, my friend, President Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa. Farewell.”

Former Inter and Roma coach José Mourinho won a UEFA Cup and a Champions League during da Costa’s tenure.

“‘Mourinho, you were the coach who gave me the most joy.’ Those were your words, PRESIDENT,” wrote the Special One.

“Mine are: ‘I feel a tremendous honour to be part of your history, and I will always be grateful for your trust and the influence you had on my career.’ That’s how we said goodbye when we met last summer in your beloved city. The smile from the first day, the joy of the last time we were together. The PRESIDENT, my PRESIDENT.”
