“Obviously a win of this manner is a lot more fun,” said the 35-year-old after starting as a striker against Frankfurt due to uncertainties surrounding Harry Kane.

“We feel how games are going and how it feels. At this stage of the season, it’s only the results that count. But of course, you also want to go home and say: ‘Wow, today we were really good’”

Michael Olise, Hiroki Ito, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry all got themselves on the scoresheet as Bayern romped to victory against third-placed Frankfurt.

Starting as a centre-forward in Sunday’s clash, the long-serving Müller has had to adapt to a bit-part role under Vincent Kompany this season, sparking criticism from former Bayern man and German icon Lothar Matthäus regarding Müller’s 24-second appearance against Celtic in the Champions League.

Müller was keen to outline that this is simply a tactical decision.

He said: “I’m in good exchange with the coach. I’m there when I’m needed. It wasn’t humiliating. Everyone in the squad puts themselves at the service of the team. The coach makes the decision to the best of his knowledge. Everything’s fine.”

20 of the 30 appearances for the club legend have come from the bench this campaign. However, Müller added: “I’m not one of those people that has any sensitivities. The coach decides what he decides. I’d rather play for 15 seconds than not at all. The coach knows that as well.”

As the rumour mill continues to spin surrounding his future at the club after this season, Müller joked with Florian Plettenberg of SKY Germany, saying: “If you don’t know, how am I supposed to know?”
