Marco Rose’s job at RB Leipzig is hanging by a thread after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Mainz left the club sixth in the Bundesliga.

According to Bild, RB Leipzig’s management held a crisis meeting after the defeat.

Ultimately, the decision was made to keep Rose in charge after the club’s new head of global soccer, Jürgen Klopp, appealed for patience with the 48-year-old, who he knows from their time together at Mainz.

If Leipzig decide to sack Rose at a later point before the end of the season, they are likely to bring in an interim replacement for the remainder of the campaign.

Head of soccer development Zsolt Löw, who previously worked as an assistant coach to Thomas Tuchel, has been discussed as a short-term solution, but the 45-year-old is reportedly not particularly interested in the role.

VfB Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneess is said to be Leipzig’s preferred long-term replacement.
