Feyenoord suffer Paixao injury blow as striker misses Inter clash

Igor Paixao, one of Feyenoord’s standout players, will miss his side’s Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Inter at San Siro due to injury.

The Brazilian forward has been one of the Eredivisie outfit’s most dangerous players in their knockout playoff against Milan, scoring the winner for his side in the first leg.

Although he was largely contained by Inter’s defenders during their first Champions League encounter in Rotterdam last week, Paixao remained one of Feyenoord’s main offensive threats, especially in a game that will force Robin van Persie’s team to push forward in an attempt to overturn a two-goal deficit on aggregate.

However, Paixao was not included in the travelling squad released by his club on Monday, adding to the list of injured players in the treatment room.

As reported by Fcinternews, the 24-year-old picked up a thigh injury and will be unavailable, joining his teammate Ibrahim Osman, who is set to miss the match through suspension after receiving a yellow card in the first leg.

Paixao has scored two goals and provided four assists in 11 Champions League appearances this season, while he also netted six goals and delivered nine assists in 24 Eredivisie matches.
