Simone Inzaghi did not deny the fact that the referees were correct to send him off at the end of Inter’s 2-1 victory over Udinese on Sunday evening, explaining that he ‘got angry about the foul on Correa’, which he felt led to a goalscoring opportunity for the opponents.

Marko Arnuatovic and Davide Frattesi converted from identical Federico Dimarco cut-backs in the first-half, but Inter appeared to struggle after a series of second-half substitutions, which Inzaghi has since explained was due to a number of fitness complaints.

Inzaghi was sent off four minutes before full-time for stepping onto the pitch to shout his complaints at the match officials. He had already been cautioned earlier on in the game for exactly the same thing.

He will now be suspended for next week’s Serie A match against Parma.

Speaking to DAZN after full-time, Inzaghi explained why he got so worked up and why the referees were correct to send him to the stands.

“The sending off was right, because I made a mistake. But I got angry about the foul on Correa, because it led to another chance from Solet from the corner that followed. Adrenaline always plays tricks on me. I was sent off and won’t be on the touchline in Parma.”
