Manchester United have been linked with a surprise move for Barcelona star Raphinha over the past couple of months.
The speculation has continued to exist in the Spanish media, but Fabrizio Romano has clarified that a deal is unrealistic.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the reputed journalist revealed that United are unlikely to afford Raphinha amid financial issues.
He said: “Financially, for Man United to sign a player like Raphinha would be quite complicated. This kind of signing is not just unlikely but also unrealistic.”
Raphinha was linked with a move away from Barcelona last summer, but he was convinced to stay by manager Hansi Flick.
The decision has proved worthwhile with the Brazil international enjoying the best campaign of his career thus far.
The 28-year-old has managed a staggering 50 goal contributions from just 47 appearances in all competitions this term.
Raphinha has no plans to move on in the summer. It could take a huge bid to persuade the Blaugrana to consider his sale.
