Three suspended Serie A players impacted by death of Pope Francis – Football Italia – April 21 latest

Three players will have to serve suspensions during the 34th round of Serie A fixtures instead of the 33rd following the postponement of four league fixtures on Easter Monday as a result of the death of Pope Francis. 

The Pope died at the age of 88 on Monday, which led to the decision to postpone all football matches scheduled to take place in Italy on Monday, from Serie A all the way down to amateur and youth levels. 

That means that the matches of Torino-Udinese, Cagliari-Fiorentina, Genoa-Lazio and Parma-Juventus will now have to be played at a later date. 

Three Serie A suspensions also postponed

Torino, Lazio and Cagliari all have players who were due to serve suspensions during the Easter Monday matches. 

Torino’s Saul Coco, Lazio’s Gustav Isaksen and Cagliari’s Alessandro Deiola were all given one-match bans due to the accumulation of yellow cards. Isaksen and Deiola are on five for the season in Serie A, while Coco is on 10. 

That means that Coco will have to sit out of Torino’s upcoming match against league title contenders Napoli instead of Udinese. Isaksen will have to miss Lazio’s game against Parma instead of Genoa, and Deiola will miss out on Cagliari’s game against Hellas Verona instead of Fiorentina.
