Graham Potter’s side have endured a difficult campaign and, though safe from relegation, they will finish the Premier League season deep in the lower half of the standings.

Plans are already underway for better next term, during which they will have Jean-Clair Todibo among their ranks after it was confirmed over the weekend that the French defender’s loan move from Nice has been made permanent.

Todibo has made only 23 Premier League appearances for the Hammers after arriving from the INEOS-backed Ligue 1 club in the summer but has enjoyed more game time since Potter arrived at the club in January.

It was agreed with Nice last summer that his stay would be made permanent at West Ham so long as they secured survival, which was confirmed at the weekend with Ipswich’s relegation.

The Hammers will now send €42m to the French side, but Barcelona are due 20% of his transfer fee, meaning that the cash-strapped Catalans will get a welcome injection of around €8.5m for the centre-back.

Barca’s bonus payment matches the fee that Nice paid for him in the summer of 2021, when Todibo departed after a stormy period at Camp Nou, where he felt he was not given the game time he deserved.

The money is a welcome cash boost to the Blaugrana, who are fighting to get back to a reasonable Financial Fair Play (FFP) position after the controversy surrounding the registration of Dani Olmo.

Potter will turn West Ham around – Todibo

Todibo has backed Potter to turn things around at West Ham, despite performances flatlining under the former Chelsea manager.

Speaking on Saturday, he said: “We’ve felt a lot of frustration, for sure, and we have to work more, but we are in a good way.

“We just need more time with this manager because when you have the positives in the game, the result is going to come.”

Todibo is the first signing of the summer for West Ham, who will surely be more active in the summer transfer market.
