Manchester United and Chelsea are involved ‘in the poker game’ for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, according to German media.
The Switzerland international is perennially linked with a departure from the German club, and this summer is proving to be no different. However, it seems increasingly like he may actually be on the move this time around.
Dortmund miraculously managed to qualify for the Champions League on the final day of the Bundesliga season in what was otherwise a miserable campaign, and Kobel has made no secret of the fact that he is unhappy with the club’s lack of competitiveness.
Asked by BILD about his future, the 27-year-old refused to commit himself to Dortmund. “I don’t comment on such things,” Kobel said. “It was important to me that we were in the Champions League, because this club simply belongs in the Champions League.
“It’s been four incredible years here. The Champions League final, almost winning the championship, and this year it’s been a completely different season. It was definitely exciting, and it never got boring.”
Kobel to leave Dortmund
The German outlet adds that his comments ‘sound like farewell’ and promptly links him to several clubs. Kobel, it is claimed, has plenty of admirers in the Premier League.
Despite repeated confirmation that Chelsea won’t sign a goalkeeper this summer, the Blues continue to be linked with shot-stoppers, and they are once again said to be interested in Kobel, with whom they already held talks in 2023.

Chelsea are reportedly also keen on Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, who is a target for Man Utd as well. The Red Devils, too, are being credited with an interest in Kobel, as are Newcastle.
The report states that all three clubs are firmly involved ‘in the poker game’ for Kobel’s future, but the shot-stopper won’t come cheap this summer. It is asserted that he could command as much as €70 million.
