Nagelsmann reveals Wirtz reached out for advice on future

Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that Florian Wirtz contacted him for advice regarding his future.

Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz continues to make headlines amid growing reports that he has chosen Liverpool over Bayern Munich as his next destination.

Speaking to Sky Germany on Saturday, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that the 22-year-old reached out to him for guidance regarding his future.

“He sent me a text message. We exchanged a few messages,” Nagelsmann revealed. 

“I tried to give him advice to the best of my knowledge and conscience, but I told him I couldn’t make the decision for him. My opinion isn’t necessarily the right one.”

Nagelsmann acknowledged that, from a national team perspective, it would have been nice to see Wirtz link up with Jamal Musiala at Bayern Munich. 

However, the former Bayern coach also emphasized that he doesn’t see Liverpool as a poor choice by any means.

“If it ends up being Liverpool, it would be a very good step. He can play in his natural position there, in a great environment, at a fantastic club.

“The most important thing is that he plays regularly and keeps progressing.”
