Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent a hopeful message after admitting this was ‘not the season we dreamed of,’ but was trolled by Milan supporters.

The special advisor has become a deeply unpopular figure among the fanbase following a difficult campaign that saw them finish eighth in Serie A, missing out on European qualification.

The former player posted a message on Instagram after Sergio Conceicao was sacked to bring in new coach Max Allegri, along with director of sport Igli Tare.

“This wasn’t the season we dreamed of. It wasn’t the one we fought for. One trophy, one lost cup final — not enough for a club like ours,” wrote Ibrahimovic.

“But every setback fuels our fire. Every lesson builds our future. We might have lost the battle this year, but the future will tell who wins the war. We rise, we grow, and we come back stronger.”

The response from Rossoneri supporters on the post was not positive, including a series of accounts who trolled him with gifs of former Milan director Paolo Maldini.

Some replied expressing disappointment this message wasn’t just Ibrahimovic announcing his resignation, with others calling his tenure as a director one of the worst let-downs in their football experience.

The first move of the season looks like it will be the sale of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City for circa €70m including bonuses, while Theo Hernandez has also been told to find a new club after failing to agree on a new contract.
