Simone Inzaghi is set to accept Al-Hilal‘s offer to become their new manager, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian tactician has masterminded two Champions League final appearances in charge of Serie A side Inter, turning the Nerazzurri into one of Europe’s best sides despite operating under financial constraints.

Although the 49-year-old suffered a chastening 5-0 defeat at the hands of PSG on Saturday, it should not diminish the excellent job Inzaghi has done at Inter.

The game did illustrate, though, that a change of approach may be necessary at Inter. Their ageing squad was unable to cope with the demands of three competitions, and they finished the season trophyless after looking like credible contenders for a treble just a few weeks ago.

In recent days, it has become increasingly doubtful that Inzaghi will be the man to ring in this new era at the San Siro as Al-Hilal have been pushing heavily to make the Italian their next manager.

Inzaghi says yes to Al-Hilal

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inzaghi has now informed Inter of his desire to take the Al-Hilal job this summer. The legendary former player is set to become the world’s best-paid manager.

Al-Hilal were desperately scrambling to reach an agreement with Inzaghi as they need a head coach for the upcoming Club World Cup, while they also remain in talks with several big-name Europe-based stars such as Victor Osimhen, Ederson and Theo Hernandez.

The Riyadh side are reportedly ready to pay Inzaghi a €25 million-per-year salary, with the tactician set to sign a three-year contract. Inzaghi leaves Inter a one-time Serie A and two-time Coppa Italia champion.

In other Al-Hilal news, Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes formally rejected a move to the Saudi club earlier on Tuesday to remain in the Premier League for the foreseeable future.
