Official: Mathys Tel joins Tottenham

After already spending half a season on loan there, Mathys Tel has now officially left Bayern Munich and joined Tottenham Hotspur.

It looked like a long lasting love story at first, but the “Bayern Munich” chapter is now over for Mathys Tel – he joins Tottenham permanently.

The 20-year-old, who’s currently at the U21-EUROS with France instead of the Club World Cup with Bayern, already played for Tottenham in the 2nd half of the 2024/25 season – he managed to feature in 20 games, where he was involved in four goals (3 goals, 1 assist).

Consistent with his market value (€35 million on Transfermarkt), Tottenham will pay Bayern €35 million + €5 million in additional payments.

Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl commented on Tel’s transfer: “He came to Munich as a very young player and succeeded in making his first steps as a professional player at the top of the game. He always gave his all for the team and the fans, which made him very popular among his teammates and Bayern’s fanbase. The step to Tottenham has proven to be the right step for him and he will continue to write his story there.”

In a difficult period for Bayern, Tel gained love and appreciation for his mentality and outspoken love for the club; in the end he played 83 games for Bayern since his transfer from Stade Rennes in 2022, scored 16 times and assisted another seven goals.
