As expected, Alberto Gilardino is set to become the coach of newly-promoted Pisa after agreeing a release from Genoa.
The tactician was still under contract with Genoa, even though the club fired him in November 2024 to make way for Patrick Vieira.
He therefore had to negotiate directly with the Grifone before he could be allowed to sign the contract for his new club.
According to Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, that agreement was reached this evening, so he is now free to take over at Pisa.
Gilardino will lead Pisa into Serie A

They earned automatic promotion from Serie B by finishing runners-up to Sassuolo, but coach Pippo Inzaghi opted to walk away for a new experience at Palermo.
Pisa therefore had to find a new boss and have chosen Gilardino, so he will sign a two-year contract with an option for a third.
A member of Italy’s 2006 World Cup winning squad, Gilardino became a coach in 2019 at Rezzato, then Pro Vercelli, Siena and was originally the Genoa Under-19 boss before promotion to the main job in December 2022.
