Reports in Italy claim that Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Matt O’Riley is keen to discuss the possibility of a move to Roma this summer, but the Giallorossi still need to move players on first if they are to satisfy FFP regulations.

According to reports from various outlets including Corriere dello Sport, O’Riley has given his availability to negotiate with Roma ahead of a potential move away from Brighton this summer.

The 24-year-old Denmark international joined Brighton in a permanent deal from Celtic during the last summer transfer window in 2024, but suffered an injury to his ankle soon after the start of the 2024-25 season, which required surgery and ultimately kept him out until November.

With plenty of competition for a spot in the starting line-up at Brighton, O’Riley was only able to play a full 90-minute match on one occasion during his first season at the Amex.

Roma must wait to continue O’Riley courtship

Now, one year after reports linking him with a move to Atalanta, there could be another opportunity for O’Riley to move to Serie A.

This summer, reports claim that Roma are keen on bringing the London-born Dane to the Stadio Olimpico. The Giallorossi are now coached by former Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini, who was in charge at the time of the reports linking O’Riley with a move to Atalanta.

However, despite O’Riley reportedly being willing to discuss terms with Roma, the Giallorossi must first clear their balance books and raise enough in capital gains before June 30 in order to avoid any further FFP punishments.

The Giallorossi raised €6.5m through the permanent sale of Nicola Zalewski to Inter, which was confirmed on Monday

Corriere dello Sport claims that Roma will begin to shift their focus to incoming arrivals from the beginning of July.
