Stanišić: “A lot of the South American teams surprised me”

The Croatian international shared his thoughts with the Brazilian media ahead of tonight’s game.

Bayern Munich’s Josip Stanišić didn’t mince his words when asked about their chances of advancing past Flamengo to the quarter-finals.

In an interview with TNT Sports Brazil, the 25-year-old showed a sign of the Bavarians’ intent stating they should advance. 

“Yes [we are favourites]. Every game we go into, we see ourselves as favourites. Otherwise we can just go home.

However, the Croatian defender didn’t pass up on the opportunity to praise the South American sides who have held their own so far. 

“A lot of the South American teams surprised me. We from Europe obviously think we have the best clubs and best football.

“South American teams fight for every ball and know every trick in the books. It’s impressive to see,” Stanišić explained.
