Non-league manager is slapped with six-game ban after joking female referees ‘need help parking’ in controversial comment on a podcast

Dorking Wanderers manager Marc White has received a six-game touchline ban for a sexist comment made on a podcast.

When discussing his disciplinary record on the Under The Cosh podcast, White said: ‘More women refs now, so you have to pay a bit more respect, do you know what I mean?

‘You have to pay a bit more respect, like help them park.’

In May, White, who also owns Dorking, was charged by the FA with using insulting or abusive words. 

The FA stated that White’s comments were an aggravated breach of the rules because of the reference made to gender. 

Dorking confirmed that White will not be in the dugout for their first six games of the National League South season.

A statement from Dorking read: ‘Following (intended fun) comments made on a podcast regarding women drivers, first team manager Marc White has received a six-game touchline suspension to be served from the beginning of the league season.’

White made the comments prior to Dorking’s 3-1 loss against Weston-super-Mare last season.

In 1999 White founded Dorking with friends as an amateur team and initially played for the club.

The 51-year-old has helped Dorking to secure 12 promotions in 23 years.

White has overseen more than 1,000 matches in charge of the club. His side were beaten by Boreham Wood last season in the National League South play-off final.
