Manchester United are unlikely to follow up their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike due to the hefty price tag, according to The Athletic.
The Red Devils were interested in landing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town earlier this summer, but he opted to sign for Chelsea instead.
The club are eyeing an alternative in the transfer market. They made initial contact for Ekitike last month, but a move is unlikely to happen.
United don’t have the financial muscle to meet the staggering £85m price tag for the Frenchman, who bagged 22 goals and 12 assists last term.
The club are instead expected to focus on an experienced striker. They have made a tentative enquiry for Aston Villa‘s Ollie Watkins of late.
Watkins was on the radar of Premier League rivals Arsenal in January, but the Gunners were reluctant to meet the reported £60m price tag.
Villa could hold out for a similar package to offload him this summer.
