Dortmund boss stirs believe ahead of Real Madrid clash: “We’re not without a chance!”

Here’s what Aki Watzke had to say in his interview with RTL/ntv ahead of BVB’s clash with Real Madrid.

With Borussia Dortmund set to face Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup this Saturday evening, excitement is starting to grow. 

Should they progress, a meeting with Bayern or PSG awaits and Hans-Joachim Watzke is more than aware of the quality opposition remaining.

“Of course, the air is getting thin now,” said the Borussia Dortmund CEO in a rather metaphorical way to the interviewer.

“Paris is in brilliant form, Bayern are doing very well here, and Real Madrid is always hungry for a title. 

“Of course, Real Madrid is the favorite [in the quarter-final vs BVB]. That’s logical. But we’re not without a chance,” he explained.

Watzke, aware of the €40million sum awaiting the winner, also wants Die Schwarzgelben to achieve for other reasons too.

“If you win this tournament, it’s forever. This is the first Club World Cup. There will be many more to come, but this is the first.

“Today, everyone who cares a bit about football knows who the first world champion was at the first regular World Cup in 1930,” he added.
