Bayern boss Max Eberl sent clear words in the direction of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma regarding the challenge that caused Jamal Musiala’s serious injury.

Jamal Musiala sustained what appears to be a serious injury just before half-time during Bayern’s 0-2 quarter-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup on Saturday after a challenge from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The look on Donnarumma’s face immediately after the incident said it all, clearly revealing that he realized the situation was serious.

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl commented on the incident after the match, saying that while he was convinced Donnarumma did not act intentionally, he could have been more careful.

“If I sprint and jump onto someone’s shin weighing 100 kilos, there’s a high risk that something will happen,” Eberl said in the mixed zone, according to Sky Germany.

“I absolutely don’t think he did it on purpose, but he also showed no consideration.”

Bayern captain Manuel Neuer also criticized Donnarumma, saying:

“It’s a situation where you don’t have to go in like that! That’s reckless. He accepts the risk of injuring his opponent.”

Neuer was also unhappy with Donnarumma’s reaction after the challenge, noting that he walked away from Musiala instead of approaching him immediately.

“I went up to him and said, ‘Don’t you want to go over to our player?’ Out of respect, you should go over and wish the guy well. He did that eventually.

“Fairness is always required. I would have reacted differently.”

Musiala was stretchered off and taken straight to the hospital, with Bayern now awaiting a clear diagnosis.

Donnarumma has taken to Instagram to react, stating:

“All my prayers and well wishes are with you, Jamal Musiala.”
