Ex-Bayern defender Babbel: “I don’t understand Uli Hoeneß anymore”

The 52-year-old has been left confused by the comments made by Hoeneß.

Former Bayern Munich defender Markus Babbel has come out and criticised Uli Hoeneß, according to Absolut Fußball.

The German, who made over 182 appearances for the Bavarians, said he feels bewildered by the Bayern board member’s public outbursts. 

“I don’t understand Uli Hoeneß anymore, I haven’t for a long time. He played a huge part in FC Bayern being where they are today, and no one can take that away from him.

“In my opinion, he has to decide: either he gets fully involved again and carries on like before, thinking that’s still in fashion – although times have changed – or he steps away completely.

“But this: ‘I’m bored now, I’m going to pull one out’ – that won’t work [in Bayern Munich’s favour] in the long run.

“That’s why I don’t see it as a coincidence that they always come up short in sporting terms when it comes to crunch time and when details are crucial,” Babbel explained.
