Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has hit back at critics after his side’s 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 Club World Cup final.

The Blues’ controversial transfer policy since Boehly’s arrival in 2022 has been widely slammed by pundits and fans alike, with the club spending in excess of €1.5 billion on new signings over the past three years.

However, a brace from Cole Palmer and a delicate dink from Joao Pedro secured Chelsea’s status as world champions on Sunday night as the club picked up their second trophy in as many months, following their Europa Conference League triumph over Real Betis.

“I think the form that you’ve seen is everything we hoped when we were putting this together with [co-sporting directors] Laurence [Stewart] and Paul [Winstanley],” Boehly admitted to talkSPORT after Chelsea’s win over PSG.

“Behdad [Eghbali, co-owner] and I couldn’t be more grateful for the success that they’ve had, and for all Chelsea fans everywhere.

“We’re just so thrilled, and thank you for sticking with us. We’re really excited about what the future holds.”

Boehly added: “We’re big believers, we knew all along in the value of the project.

“So I think, obviously, it came together brilliantly, and those are just odds that you can’t predict. But we’re hopeful that every day we wake up, the odds are that Chelsea are going to win something big.

“I think the boys have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with, and I think that’s what we were hoping for.”

Chelsea’s transfer strategy under Todd Boehly

Chelsea have signed a total of 51 first-team players since the BlueCo consortium, led by Boehly and Clearlake Capital, replaced Roman Abramovich as the club’s owners in 2022.

The vast majority of those signings have been under the age of 23, with Chelsea introducing a revolutionary transfer strategy that has seen them scoop up a plethora of talented youngsters from across world football.

Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were among those to slam Chelsea’s bold strategy last year, with the former labelling them as “billion pound bottlejobs” and the latter questioning why any player in world football would want to join them.

However, the Blues are now recognised as the best team in world football and they are expected to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
