Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has informed Borussia Dortmund that he is ready to return as his move to Juventus continues to stall.
Earlier this week, reports emerged out of Italy that Man Utd and Juventus had reached a broad agreement for the permanent transfer of the 25-year-old.
The Red Devils had agreed to sell Sancho for as little as €17.5 million plus potential bonuses, with the winger set to earn around €6m per season over a four-year contract.
However, the reports acknowledged that this deal was unlikely to be finalised anytime soon as Juventus first have to offload players after signing Francisco Conceicao for €32m.
This has now essentially been confirmed by director Damien Comolli when quizzed on the topic of Sancho, with the Frenchman saying that Juventus would only be able to sign the ex-England star – or any other winger for that matter – after making sales.
Sancho wants Dortmund return
The lengthy delay in the negotiations with Juventus has seen Sancho grow increasingly impatient, and he is now evidently exploring other options as well.
Borussia Dortmund recently held internal discussions over whether signing Sancho for a third time would be feasible. Contact has since been made with the player’s camp, and the response received was an overwhelmingly positive one.
BILD claims that Sancho has informed Dortmund that he is keen to rejoin the club and that he is willing to make significant financial sacrifices to enable the club to pull off this deal.
The 25-year-old is said to be ready to cut his current €16 million salary in half, which would not even put him among Dortmund’s highest earners. By comparison, opinion-dividing centre-back Niklas Sule is currently on €14m per year.
Meanwhile, Dortmund are willing to pay Man Utd’s €18m-€20m asking price, although Sky Germany states that the Bundesliga side could look to push that fee down even further.
After several underwhelming years, Sancho is well aware that he has to get his next move right, and there may be no better environment for him than the familiar one of Dortmund, where he is still revered.
However, it is important to note that the final decision on whether Sancho rejoins Dortmund will be made by head coach Niko Kovac. This could yet become a problem as he is known to value discipline and work rate above all else, and those are not Sancho’s strong points.
