Chelsea open talks for 18-year-old centre-back

Chelsea have shown interest in Red Bull Salzburg centre-back Joane Gadou, the 6 foot 5 defender that arrived in Austria from Paris St Germain in 2024 and has swiftly become one of Europe’s brightest young defensive prospects. It has been reported that the Blues will bid around £20 million to sign Gadou before the transfer window closes.

Gadou appeared 21 times in the Austrian top flight last season and quickly caught the eye at his new club, and his form sparked rumours that former club PSG would try to re-sign the youngster this summer, but a bid has been ruled out. Instead, Chelsea are hopeful an agreement can be reached and the 18-year-old will move to West London on a long-term contract.

Defensively, Gadou excels in 1v1 situations, showing strong awareness and efficiency under pressure. He reads the game well, intercepting passes and making timely tackles, which helps prevent opposition threats before they materialize. It is understood that the Blues are confident a deal will be agreed this month, extending the Blues’ busy transfer activity this summer.
