Leverkusen boss content with Ten Hag’s “more outspoken” nature

Here’s what Die Werkself’s boss had to say during his pitch side interview.

In a half-time interview with Sky Germany during their friendly game with SC Pisa, Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rolfes spoke about the club and new coach Erik ten Hag.

Leverkusen’s director of sport noted the similarities in meticulous nature between Xabi Alonso and Ten Hag, but also highlighted the differences that their new gaffer possesses.

“He may be a bit more outspoken [than Xabi Alonso], but I never saw a coach that wouldn’t like to get new players – that doesn’t surprise me.

“But we always have a clear direction, a clear structure to how we approach things and try to put together a good squad with the resources we have available – that’s the challenge,” he said.

After hinting at possibly re-entering the market to “add a few certain qualities,” Rolfes continued by praising the new signings who were leading 3-0 at the break.

“They’ve made a good impression. I think Mark [Flekken] already showed his qualities, Jarell Quansah as well. Axel Tape was the surprise of the first few games.

“Malik Tillman still missing and set to join in. All in all, they make a good impression and bring to the pitch what we expect of them,” Rolfes added.
