The second round of group stage fixtures for the inaugural Serie A Women’s Cup started today, with wins for both Inter and Roma to maintain both sides’ 100% start to the tournament.
Roma kicked off the day against Milan, with a close contest resulting in a narrow win for the Giallorossi. A goal from 17-year-old forward Giulia Galli proved decisive, after the teenager came on as a substitute for former Juventus midfielder Valentina Bergamaschi around the hour mark. Roma emerged with all three points but the Rossoneri proved they were no pushovers against a stronger Roman side.

Serie A Women’s Cup: Inter defeat Fiorentina
The day’s second fixture saw Inter emerge as 3-1 victors over Fiorentina, despite a late red card for goalscorer Haley Bugeja.
It took just two minutes for Inter to take the lead, Elisa Polli gifting her side a strong start to the match before Karolina Vilhjalmsdottir doubled the advantage just two minutes later.
Fiorentina midfielder Sofie Bredgaard offered her team a fighting chance with a goal back in the 68th minute but a goal from Bugeja ten minutes later sealed the win for Inter. However, Bugeja later received a second yellow card in the 90th minute and was sent off.
Serie A Women’s Cup: An Overview
In June, the FIGC council approved a change in format for the 2025-26 season for women’s football in Italy.
The Serie A Women’s Cup was introduced and would see all 12 of the clubs from the Serie A Women participate for a chance to win a trophy before the league season begins in October.

The tournament consists of three groups of four, with the top team of each group qualifying alongside the best second-placed side. The format then progresses to a knockout, with a single-leg semi-final and final deciding the winners.
