“We are the real winners” – Hoeneß comments on Bayern’s transfer business this summer

Uli Hoeneß was a guest on the 30th anniversary of the famous German talk show “Sport1-Doppelpass” and commented on many topics. Here are his thoughts on Bayern Munich’s transfer business this summer.

Uli Hoeneß is always one to stir the pot in the football world with whatever he says; That’s why he’s a very welcome guest on the talkshow “Sport1-Doppelpass.”

He was once again a guest on the 30th anniversary of the famous German show and commented on a lot of things, but mainly on Bayern’s transfer business this summer. Here is everything he said about that topic during the show:

“We are very satisfied at FC Bayern. We are the real winners of the summer transfer window. We have a strong team and didn’t need to make any major reinforcements. Of course, we would have liked to have Florian Wirtz, but we would never have bought him for €150 million. We offered €55 million for Nick Woltemade, while Stuttgart wanted €75 million. In the end, he went to Newcastle for €90 million. What Newcastle is doing has nothing to do with soccer. It’s like Monopoly these days.”

Nick Woltemade has been featured in one of the longest transfer sagas this summer – and Sky Germany expert Lothar Matthäus predicted that Bayern would have to pay €80-100 million, what Hoeneß merely scoffed at back then. His response now sounded different:

“He [Matthäus] was just lucky. He [Woltemade] isn’t worth €90 million. It only happened because of the money flowing in from Saudi Arabia.”

While Bayern didn’t get Florian Wirtz or Nick Woltemade, they did manage to secure the signing of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson. However, Hoeneß made a statement about the real fee Bayern paid for him:

“It is not a loan fee of €16.5 million, as the player and his agent are contributing €3 million, leaving €13.5 million. And there will definitely not be a permanent contract. That will only happen if he plays 40 games from the start – he will never manage that.”

Many believe Bayern have not strengthened their squad enough – Hoeneß also had something to say about that:

“We mustn’t forget that there is still a transfer window in January. We would have enough money for that. In addition, we will get three “new signings” for free in November in the form of Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Itō. Then there are the young players who need to play.”
