Although Milan emerged 1-0 victors against Bologna this evening at San Siro, there was a worry for Rossoneri fans when goalkeeper Mike Maignan was forced off with injury in the second half.
Summer signing Pietro Terracciano came on to make his debut for the injured Frenchman.
Reports have suggested that the keeper is suffering from a right calf strain, an injury Maignan has already suffered from since he joined Milan.
In fact, since his arrival at the Rossoneri, Maignan has missed 54 matches through injury – more than any other top club number one in Serie A.
Maignan injury reveals concerning pattern for Milan goalkeeper

In his first season with Milan, Maignan suffered a wrist injury in October 2021 that kept him out for 45 days, missing 11 games for club and country in that time.
The following year was even worse for the Frenchman, an injury in his right calf suffered in October resulted in further complications that meant Maignan did not play for Milan between September and February, missing a total of 31 matches for club and country.
In the 2023-24 campaign, Maignan did not miss a large chunk of the season but instead suffered several smaller knocks that made him miss a maximum of a few games at a time. In this season, Maignan missed 10 games for Milan across September, March and April.
Finally, last season was the Frenchman’s ‘fittest’ in Serie A. Maignan missed just two games last season: one in December and one in April.
So in total, it is 54 games missed for Maignan in Rossoneri colours. Granted, a majority of these came from his first two seasons but the fact the goalkeeper has now injured the same calf that caused him grief all those years ago, is a major cause for concern.
In comparison, via data retrieved through TransferMarkt, in this same time period, Gianluigi Donnarumma missed just 4 matches for PSG, Yann Sommer missed 14 for Monchengladbach and Inter and Alex Meret has missed 30.
Napoli summer signing Vanja Milinkovic-Savic missed a total of 6 games for Torino in the same time period and Juventus shot-stopper Michele Di Gregorio has been absent for 8 across his spells with Monza and the Bianconeri.
Do Milan regret refusing Chelsea approach for Maignan?

In the summer, the Milan goalkeeper was reportedly very close to a move to Premier League club Chelsea.
The new head coach was determined to make Maignan a central part of his ‘new Milan’ and requested the club pull the plug on any potential sale – a move that aggravated Chelsea.
With the Frenchman’s fresh injury setback, Milan may be left kicking themselves if this turns into a genuine concern.
The Rossoneri could have parted ways with Maignan, who as demonstrated has been a selection problem before, and brought in a new goalkeeper.
However, the Frenchman is undeniably a top talent and it is obvious why Allegri was so insistent to keep a hold of him.
