Former Bayern Munich full-back Bixente Lizarazu, has openly criticised Kingsley Coman’s summer move to Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to French TV’s Telefoot, Lizarazu stated he couldn’t understand this €25million move to Al-Nassr for the 29-year-old winger.

“No one will convince me that you go to Saudi Arabia for sporting reasons. It’s not a league where you go to improve [as a player].

“He could have played in one of the major European leagues, for example, in England,” said Lizarazu, who represented Bayern from 1997 to 2006.

He drew comparisons with Coman’s French compatriot, N’Golo Kanté, who also no longer plays a role for Les Bleus since his move to the Gulf state.

Coman, 29-years-old and at the peak of his career, may have also ruined his chances of further appearances in the national team jersey in Lizarazu’s eyes.

For Bayern, however, the transfer at least made financial sense – the Munich team received a transfer fee and saved a significant salary.
