After joining VfL Wolfsburg late in the transfer window, Christian Eriksen made his debut for his new club in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, coming on as a substitute with around 30 minutes remaining.

Afterwards, the 33-year-old Danish midfielder spoke to WAZ about his first impressions of playing in the Bundesliga.

“Overall, I’m of course happy to have played some minutes and made my debut,” Eriksen said.

“On the other hand, I’m not happy with the result – we didn’t take any points. But fundamentally, I’m happy and really proud to have played my first game.”

Eriksen added that the electrifying atmosphere at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park made things challenging for Wolfsburg.

“It’s a great stadium. The fans make noise for 90 minutes – that’s something special in football in general,” he said.

“Of course, I would have preferred a slightly calmer debut today, but yes – it’s a special place.

“Dortmund are a very strong team, but I think we also showed that we can compete with them. They may have had a slightly stressful week with a midweek game – we didn’t. Still, they have a very good team.”
