Bayern Munich have refused to rule out a sensational return to Tottenham for Harry Kane, with director Max Eberl admitting the striker has the power to dictate his own future.

Speculation intensified this week linking Kane with former side Tottenham after manager Thomas Frank admitted his desire to one day see the club legend come back to his boyhood team.

Kane is believed to have a clause in his contract allowing him to leave next summer for €65 million, although it is understood that the 32-year-old would have to inform Bayern of his intentions in January, with Manchester United among the sides said to be interested.

However, Eberl insisted Kane’s future would only depend on his decision, having made a similar call to leave Tottenham for Bayern for €95m in 2023.

Eberl said: “He’s old enough to make his own decisions, whether clause or no clause, whatever – if he says, ‘I want to make a decision,’ then he’ll make it, as he showed at Tottenham.

“But our wish is, of course, to be very, very successful with Harry this season and in the future!”

Kane still eyeing Premier League goalscoring record

Kane’s contract with Bayern expires in 2027 and the England captain has started this season in electric form, with ten goals already scored in just five games across all competitions.

Bayern are desperate to keep hold of Kane for as long as possible and will look to offer him a new contract, but they are aware that the striker may be tempted by a return to England in order to beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League all-time goalscoring record, of which he is just 47 goals shy of.

Tottenham’s desire to bring their former star man back to his roots may also intrigue Kane further, with Frank speaking this week that he would be ‘welcome’ back in North London.

“I think there’s a lot of Tottenham fans including myself who would like to see Kane back,” Frank said. “He’s a top player. Personally, I don’t think he will do it right now, if I’m honest, he’ll probably stay in Bayern and continue performing well.

“I don’t know what he’s thinking. Myself, I’m a traveller, I like to travel, I like to explore things as well. He’s been here for many years, so why not enjoy the time at Bayern a little bit more.

“But he’s welcome. If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome.”
