With other top clubs such as Real Madrid and Liverpool reportedly monitoring Dayot Upamecano’s situation, Bayern Munich are determined to extend the French defender’s contract beyond the end of the season.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl confirmed that talks are underway, with the club hoping an agreement can be reached.

“There are very open discussions, especially with Dayot Upamecano. It’s no big secret that we have a strong desire to extend Upamecano’s contract,” he said.

In addition to Upamecano, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Raphael Guerreiro, Manuel Neuer, and Sven Ulreich are out of contract next summer.

“As for the other players, some contracts are running out for some who have been at FC Bayern for a long time,” Eberl added.

“These players now have a completely different perspective, both for themselves and for the team. Of course, we are always thinking about this. When we feel the timing is right, we will start the discussions quietly, behind closed doors.”
