Why Man Utd won’t sack Ruben Amorim until November

Manchester United are reportedly unlikely to sack Ruben Amorim until November in order to reduce the compensation they will owe the 40-year-old.

Amorim has endured a torrid spell as the head coach at Old Trafford and he is the odds-on favourite to become the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

The former Sporting CP boss has only won 19 of his 49 matches in charge of Man Utd, and the club’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday means he is still yet to win consecutive Premier League matches since his appointment last year.

In total, Man Utd have only picked up 33 points in 34 league matches under Amorim, but the club are still reluctant to part ways with the 40-year-old, according to talkSPORT.

If Man Utd decide to sack Amorim now, it will reportedly cost the club €13.7 million (£12m). As a result, the club are likely to wait until November in order to reduce the compensation they will be forced to pay if they fire the Portuguese tactician.

Who will replace Ruben Amorim at Man Utd?

A number of managers have emerged as possible candidates to replace Amorim in the Old Trafford dugout, with talkSPORT claiming that a three-man shortlist has been drawn up by the club’s hierarchy.

Former England boss Gareth Southgate has once again been linked with the job and Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly been in “direct contact” with the 55-year-old in recent weeks.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola are also under consideration after impressing in the Premier League over the past 12 months.

However, Man Utd would be forced to pay a substantial fee to appoint either manager due to the fact they are currently employed.

Xavi, Luciano Spalletti, Thiago Motta, Marco Rose, Edin Terzic, Graham Potter and former boss Erik ten Hag are all out of work and could therefore be selected as Amorim’s replacement for free.
