Sean Dyche has admitted that he is “enjoying” being out of work amid rumours that he could replace Russell Martin at Rangers.

Dyche, 54, was sacked by Everton back in January and he has been tipped to return to management at Ibrox, with reports suggesting that Martin could soon be sacked.

A last-minute winner from Max Aarons secured Rangers’ first league win of the 2025-26 season on Saturday to ease growing pressure on Martin following the club’s worst league start in 47 years.

However, Rangers supporters are still desperate for the 39-year-old to be fired, and Martin has been the subject of several fan protests during the early weeks of the new campaign amid the club’s poor form.

They are already nine points behind league leaders Hearts after just six Scottish Premiership matches and while new owner Andrew Cavenagh reportedly retains faith in the ex-Southampton manager, fan pressure could lead to Martin being sacked unless results improve dramatically over the next few weeks.

Sean Dyche to Rangers?

Although Dyche is currently the bookies’ favourite to replace Martin at Ibrox, the former Burnley and Everton boss has admitted that he will not rush back into management if the opportunity isn’t right.

“You know, it’s a strange thing football management,” Dyche told the ‘Call Yourself a Fan’ podcast (via The Daily Record).

“The job sort of comes and gets you. You don’t just ring clubs and say, ‘any danger?’

“If the timing is right and they want me to come and do it and interview and see if we get it. I’m alright at the minute, I’m quite enjoying watching what’s going on rather than being immersed in it.”

If Martin is sacked by Rangers and Dyche opts to reject the job, it’s believed that Steven Gerrard, Danny Rohl and Gary O’Neil are likely to be among the contenders.
