Genoa defender Leo Ostigard’s injury is more serious than at first thought, as the Norway team confirmed he has been diagnosed with a broken rib.

The centre-back was seen struggling with a blow to the ribcage and substituted at half-time during the 2-1 defeat to Bologna on September 20.

Despite that heavy bruising, he also played the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 loss to Lazio on September 29, then was left out of the squad for yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Napoli.

While Genoa’s statement only confirmed his rib issue was still unresolved, there was more information from the Norway football federation when explaining why Ostigard had been dropped for international duty.

Their website confirms he has been diagnosed with a broken rib, meaning the injury was worse than previously thought.

Norway, who are in the same 2026 World Cup qualifying group as Italy, are set to play against Israel and then a friendly with New Zealand.
