Fabio Capello sees ‘desire for redemption’ in Rasmus Hojlund after his poor spell at Manchester United, but feels Scott McTominay does not have the same impact as last season.

Capello analysed the attacking departments of the top Serie A sides in his latest column for Gazzetta dello Sport, starting with table leaders Napoli.

The Partenopei significantly strengthened their attack over the summer by signing Lorenzo Lucca from Udinese and Hojlund from Manchester United.

The Dane only moved to the Stadio Maradona on deadline day following an injury to Romelu Lukaku.

“It’s a particularly clever move because in other areas of the pitch, there are quality players who are having less of an impact than last year, such as McTominay,” said Capello.

“Indeed, Conte’s team hasn’t scored a lot so far, but they are still very organised, and Hojlund is a crucial addition because he already knows Italian football and won’t struggle to settle in.”

Hojlund has already scored four goals in six appearances with the Partenopei. He’s on loan at Napoli, but the defending Serie A champions have an obligation to buy him next season.

Hojlund failed to justify his €75m price tag at Manchester United, netting 26 times in 95 games across two seasons at Old Trafford.

“Playing in Naples puts you under more pressure than at Atalanta, but the Dane seems to have matured thanks to his Premier League experience, which helped him realise his true value,” concluded Capello.

“I’ve also noticed in him a certain desire for redemption after his time at Manchester United.”

Napoli are the Serie A leaders alongside Roma with 15 points in the opening six rounds.
